A Shift in Consciousness
I was chatting to a friend the other day and we were joking about the end of the world, as you do in 2011.
She said, “But it’s not really the end of the world is it? It’s a shift in consciousness.”
And with those four simple words, “a shift in consciousness,” she crystallised so much for me.
I have been saying for as long as I can remember, to anyone who will listen, that we are in the shift between the ages. I have also been saying, to anyone who asked for more specifics, that I don’t believe anything will happen in 2012, there will be no big bang where we all transcend into light beings or receive alien visitations.
So how does this next year become one of the most monumental in human history without any single pivotal moment to hang it round?
It’s because what we are talking about here is an energetic shift. A shift in the way the majority of humans view life, a very subtle yet very profound shift in consciousness that will define our progress for centuries to come.
How long have you felt that the world was upside down? When was the moment you realised that nothing was as it should be, that the current consensus reality is flimsy and insubstantial and not derived from any great truths, but sustains itself on deception, dishonour and fear? How hard do you work to try and change that? To heal yourself and your world with positive thought and positive action?
It’s been tough, hasn’t it. There are many times I’ve cried with overwhelm and exhaustion. So much to do, so much to change, and so little support from the mainstream. We have had to face every negative reaction on the spectrum, from blind indifference to furious hostility, but still we carry on because we know in our hearts who we are and why we are here.
We are all one, it’s no spiritual cliché. To have something in common with those around us is a driving urge which overrides logic and reason. To go against the mainstream and challenge the prevalent worldview is going against one of our most basic human instincts. But at this point in time, the urge to transcend to a new stage of human evolution in order to ensure our survival, is even greater than the urge to merge in with the crowd, in those of us who are ready to embrace it.
When I think about the energy of the times we are in, I have the image of a magnet, with two opposing poles. There is the pole of old paradigm consciousness and the pole of new paradigm consciousness. As the new paradigm gets stronger, it draws more and more people to it. As it draws more people to it, so its magnetism becomes greater.
I often look around in a crowded space, a tube train say, or a shopping centre, and feel like I am on a different planet from everyone else. At first that was a disorientating feeling, a lonely feeling. But now, I look around and I can’t help thinking, wow, my planet is really happening right now. I love my planet, it’s a wonderful, vibrant, exciting, fun place to be. And their planet looks dead. Dull, lifeless, decaying. They are on a dying planet.
I suspect we will experience more heart-breaking tragedies in 2012. Riots, natural disasters, man-made disasters. There will be moments filled with tears and anger and confusion and darkness. But each time, we will come out of these episodes filled with more confidence and certainty that we do have solutions, that change is not only possible it is inevitable, and that the human spirit is an incredible and wonderful force which has a magical way of overturning obstacles and making miracles happen. And by the end of the year, we will know, know for sure, that we are on track and everything really is ok.
For those of us working for change, I anticipate that it will feel as if the world is rushing towards us, rather than always being out of our grasp. For those who are clinging to the old ways, scared to let go, it will feel like the rug has been pulled from their feet and the world has turned upside down. But we know upside down is the right way round, and the rug had to go because really it was a magic carpet.
This time next year, outwardly, I don’t expect the world will look too much different. But inwardly we will be occupying a whole new space, and that is what will propel us out into the galaxies of future possibility.

I understand the things happening in this way too.
With regards to us all being one, if only we could see how it all really is! I think we would laugh! We cling on to independence, but in reality, there is no separation.
My teacher says that the opposite of love is not hate, but fear. So in times of change and disaster I hope to be able to calm fear and trust in love.
Thankyou for this ‘real’ thought on Christmas day Kate!
Merry Christmas!May you have a happy, successful and prosperous 2012!
much love
