The Recipe for a Brighter Day

Digestibility

August 31, 2011  |   featured,Writing   |     |   4 Comments

For the longest time, there was only me to make food for myself and my family. Crackers, cereal, bread, cakes, cookies, crisps, chocolate, sweets, puddings; you name it, if I didn’t make it, we didn’t eat it.

Now, I appreciate it so much when I can eat other people’s food. I have been known to cry with joy over a box of flax crackers. I know how much energy it takes to create a product and then manufacture, distribute and market it. I marvel that someone did that, and put so much love and integrity into their product, just so little me could enjoy it. The same goes for restaurants. I understand the amount of hard work and the small financial gain that comes of these labours (at least at the beginning) and I feel overwhelming respect and gratitude towards anyone who will voluntarily put themselves through that for the sheer joy of feeding people the best food they can imagine.

Hi Kate: Oh the amazing synchronicity of this article! Coming from a family of “foodies” in the restaurant business, i have been really focused on many of the more complex elements of raw food (maybe psychologically trying to “justify” to my family that it can be high end!) but lately I have found that i am starting to learn the things that really make me feel good (that turn out most times be much simpler prep) and that is really the draw of a raw food lifestyle for me–i have had digestive weirdness for a long time and NOW, i feel SO good and that’s what’s so exciting about continuing –learning what’s best for my system and putting together amazing recipes for family and friends! Thank you so much for all you do – I LOVE the bubble!!

I totally agree, my digestive system definitely tells me when I get it wrong and now I am focusing on exactly what my body wants and ask it otherwise I get carried away at the excitement of creating something amazing!!! Thank you for clarifying everything! ;-)

15 minutes of pleasure on the tongue or 4 hours of pain in the digestive tract? Hmmm, lemme see…

WHY have I never thought of it that way?!? You are one smart (raw) cookie, Ms. Magic.

Thanks for the verbal slap on the forehead. I needed that!

Yeah, very interesting way of putting things, thanks Kate. I just was thinking of this in the week when I had made amazing sweet raw stuff at home, but noticed i was feeling decidedly spacey- and despite the yummy brownies, the truth was it was too much sweet for me and was making me feel a bit wrong. raw doesn’t always mean it is the best option, it is more important that we listen to our own bodies for what raw we are choosing to eat.. i’m learning this… :-)
